Are You Really Prepared?

The Times We Live In:

Have you ever wondered how your family would survive for three days or more without the wonders of modern technology? Despite events like 9/11, Katrina and the Northeast Blackout of 2003, wildfires in Texas and earthquakes on the East Coast in 2011; fewer than 5% of Americans are prepared to ‘stay in place’ or ‘book out’ in case of an emergency or disaster.

The news constantly reminds us, It is not whether it will happen, but when.”

What if a natural disaster or a riot occurred this very moment where you live? You have only a few hours to decide. Do I stay at home or leave? If you leave, what do you take? If you stay, how do you prepare? If you do not have an immediate answer, you must ask yourself:

What would I do: if there is no electricity? no running water?

Is this where you want to be?

You may be asking these questions because of your awareness of recent world events, a sense of responsibility to family or neighbors, or are just wanting to not be a victim in a public shelter after the disaster has occurred. You are not alone.

You may have started to seek information; but, everyone is selling a book, web sites are full of suggestive lists, firms are selling ‘kits’ filled with sub-standard products (many are actually useless or not necessary). This abundance of information (both good and bad) has left many with the simple excuse, “to think about it later“.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful; if someone has already done the bulk of the background work, gathered the information in one place, set up a classroom in Colorado; and, then made it fun and adventurous to help you become knowledgeable and prepared to be ready if an emergency or disaster strikes?

We can provide what is missing from most pamphlets, books and internet advice. We are not talking about a wilderness survival class.

We hold two types of disaster preparation classes:

  • A summer outdoor adventure class in the mountains for five to ten students, to provide a learning environment where there is no electricity or running water. This allows you to actually experience how to survive a disaster while in the adventure of a mountainous outdoor setting.
  • A classroom setting for larger groups of ten to twenty students where the equipment is assembled for review and examination by participants and a discussion group is held on the different sections of the workbook.
  • Each class settings provides you with an opportunity to complete an individualized disaster plan to implement.

You can have the opportunity to actually participate in:

  • hands-on training to utilize equipment common to basic disaster survival.
  • formulation of a personal viable plan of action whether at home, work or traveling.
  • becoming confident and obtaining a mind set that has the capacity to adapt and remain above circumstances.
  • gaining peace of mind, because you are knowledgeable about your preparation.
  • learning by actual experience, that allows you to implement a strategy that is compatible with your circumstances.

How we can help you be prepared:

  • Our summer outdoor adventure classes are located in Colorado, west of Colorado Springs in the Rocky Mountains.
  • Our classroom classes are held in various community centers, churches and businesses in Colorado.
  • To view and register for our classes see our (Curriculum / Schedule).
  • Our instructors are ordinary citizens who have had a ‘prepared’ mindset for several years. They understand the necessity of ‘hands on’ training; because it enables you to make better choices, understand your (individual) needs and become experienced in the ‘how to’ of operating equipment integral to survival.

In case you were wondering, we chose our company name ‘Poieo’ (poi-eh-oh),

because it is an ancient word that means ‘to make ready, to prepare‘.
